A Tiny Food Who-Dun-It

My kids accuse me of loving tiny food, and they make fun of this. For me, I am an efficient user of resources who maximizes the mixture of flavors available to me. For example, if I have made pancakes for the family and a small amount of batter remains, I will make one last tiny pancake; when it comes off the pan, I dab it with a tiny bit of butter, top it with a drop of syrup, and eat it. I have done the same thing with scones. If you’ve been following, you also know my affinity for chicken minis with a dab of honey.

But I am done being teased about this because I am hardly the only or worst offender. My mother in law is known for slivering cake and pizza to death: “I can’t eat another whole piece, but could I just get a slivah?” And about ten minutes later, “Can I get just one more slivah?”

Today, though, I made a truly astonishing discovery. On our dining room table, we have a basket in the shape of a Frosty the Snowman hat. Said basket is full of candy from the holidays, and folks are free to grab from it whenever they like. I like to finish lunch with a bit of chocolate—something dark or a truffle or a mint chocolate and, yes, something small. I went fishing in the candy basket and discovered this:

Readers, if it is not clear to you, that is half of a Hershey’s dark miniature. Further, I had nothing to do with this. What has happened here is that someone grabbed a Hershey’s miniature, bit off half of it, wrapped the other half, and put it back in the basket. Not sure why said “someone” didn’t just take the other half for later if “she” couldn’t manage to eat the whole thing in one sitting.

I sent this photo to the Goons and said this: “I will accept no more mockery about tiny food. I was grabbing some candy out of the hat in the dining room, and I pulled up an opened, half-eaten Hershey’s dark chocolate. I did not do this. Mom must have.”

Lauren’s response? “Someone must have.”

“Someone” indeed.
